Who we are

The Gargano Local Action Group was set up following the execution of the memorandum of understanding between Ente Parco Nazionale del Gargano and Comunità Montana del Gargano (July 7, 2000) for the implementation of the Leader Plus project of the European Union. On that date, the two abovementioned parties undertook to form a Promoting Committee involving all the public and private entities interested in the projects envisaged by the EU Plan for the promotion of the socio-economic and sustainable development of the Gargano territory.

The Promoting Committee was set up on April 15, 2002, with the commitment to become a Local Action Group (GAL), whose main responsibility is to implement the development strategies laid down in the EU Plan.

On March 31, 2003, the parties to the memorandum of association formally undertook to create the GAL under the name of Gargano Soc.Cons.a r.l., whose main activity is the preparation of the Local Development Plan (LDP), in accordance with the procedures established by the Puglia Region and by EU regulations. The GAL partnership represents the Gargano area, both for the participation of the two public entities, Parco Nazionale del Gargano and Comunità Montana del Gargano, who are the mouthpiece of local demands, and for the private entities basically involved in farming and animal husbandry, staple sectors of the local economy on which the LDP targets its action.
